Seriously folks, this fly swatter is totally hand made by us….we cut the dowel to length, then stain it and cut the slot for the head, cut the head out of heavy leather, stamp it dye it, finish it, punch the holes in it, because without the holes the air blows the fly out of the way instead of getting it… then lace the head on …

The first time I made one was in the state of Minnesota in 1978 I was working a craft show in a Mall and the flies where relentless. They where everywhere and the pesky kind for sure. There was this one that just WOULDN’T LEAVE ME ALONE (and yes I had showered that morning). Well the thing finally settled down and I had about a ten inch piece of leather in my hand, so I reached over with that piece of leather and nailed the bugger. There was a customer looking at my belts and she saw me do that and she said jokingly, “You should put a stick on the end of that and make a fly swatter” ……well the rest is history, as they say…. and I have had nothing but fun making and selling these silly fly swatters since then and many hundreds of them later I’m finally offering them to my ETSY customers

When I had a store in West Yellowstone Montana, tourists going to Yellowstone Park from all over the world stopped in and that fly swatter was one thing they bought like crazy so they really are all over the world. I guess flies are an International terror.
